3 Useful Tips for Keeping Your Windows Clean This Spring

Springtime means only one thing for many homeowners across the U.S.: general cleaning and home maintenance. A lot of people like to focus on getting rid of clutter, cleaning their gutters or replacing loose shingles on their roof, but showing your windows a little love is also equally important during this time of year. Here are three important window maintenance tips to help keep your windows looking great for the rest of the year.

Keeping Your Windows Clean This Spring

1. Clean Your Window Screens

If you live in an area that sees a lot of snowfall, then you probably took down your window screens during this last winter. Now that it is time to put them back up again, you might as well give them a good cleaning. Take a non-abrasive brush and household cleaner, and give it a good scrubbing. Hose down both sides, and let them dry properly before reinstalling them.

2. Clean Both Inside and Out

A lot of people only clean the interior portion of their windows since it is easier to access. Whether you have double-hung windows or large picture windows, cleaning the outside is just as important as cleaning the inside, maybe even more so since the outside portion of your windows will usually have more stubborn stains like bird droppings and water spots.

3. Make Your Own Cleaning Solution

A lot of commercial window cleaning solutions contain harsh chemicals that might actually do more harm than good. Thankfully, you can easily make your own window cleaner using items you probably already have. To make your own window cleaner, combine two cups of water with a quarter cup of white vinegar and half a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid, and give it a good shake.
