What a Typical Window Replacement Timeline Looks Like

Replacing old, drafty windows with new, energy-efficient units is usually a time-consuming process that requires the expertise of trained installers. Since most homeowners go through it only once or twice, it is quite normal to think about what the basic timeline of window replacement looks like.

Typical Window Replacement

Here is a general chronology of the window replacement process:

Before the Installers Arrive

Once you have confirmed the installation date and time, you will need to prepare your home and your family for the home improvement. Inform small children about the incoming chore, and refrain them from running around during the replacement process. If you have pets, arrange for them to be cared for at a secluded location. Small possessions of value should be secured in a cabinet. Move large pieces of furniture away from the windows and cover those that cannot be relocated.

First Day of Window Replacement

Meet the project manager, and walk the team through your house. Normally, one set of installers brings in the replacement windows as another set of installers removes current windows. Ensure that the installers have laid down drop cloths or other protective coverings. By the end of the day, you may expect 12 to 15 windows to be removed and replaced, depending on the size of the crew. No tools should be left and old windows should be removed from the site.

Second Day of Window Replacement

While many window replacements can be completed within a day, some may spill over to a second day. On the second day, installers will arrive early and continue replacing windows. Once the crew is finished, the new windows will be put to test by opening and closing them. If the crew decides to remove the labels that contain warranty details from your windows, ask them to save the labels for future reference. Then, before the installation team bids goodbye, they will ensure that the house is broom-cleaned and back to its original condition.
